The Philippines’ debt crisis

International donors have pledged over 100 million US dollars for relief work in typhoon-hit areas of The Philippines so far this year. But the country must pay 800 times that amount – 8.8 billion dollars – every year to pay for debts incurred under the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos. RFI spoke about The Philippines’ debt crisis with Eric Le Compte, a member of Jubilee USA Network, an organization fighting for debt relief for the world’s poorest people.
