Malala Yousafzai arrived in Oslo, Norway, on Tuesday to attend Wednesday's Nobel Peace Prize ceremony.

She was to be honoured along with Indian children’s rights activist Kailash Satyarthi.

At 17 Yousafzai, who is internationally known as Malala, is the youngest-ever laureate.

Her name and her cause rose to fame when, at the age of 15, she was shot in the head by Taliban militiamen for campaigning against the destruction of girls’ schools.

The blood-soaked school uniform she was wearing will be on display at the Nobel museum to symbolise the courage and sacrifice of those who fight for women’s right to education.

Kailash Satyarthi is receiving the award for his 35 years of struggle to free thousands of Indian children from slave labour conditions.

The winners will split the 1.1 million US dollars award between them.

The ceremony was also to be attended by the winner of the literature prize Patrick Modiano and Jean Tirole, who won the Nobel economics award, both of them French nationals.

Unlike recent laureates, this year’s prize-winners have provoked no significant negative reactions so far.

However, harsh remarks from outgoing Nobel Committee director Geir Lundestad have come to the fore in a debate about the committee’s independence.
