Icelandic volcano's activity drops
The Icelandic volcano that has disrupted air traffic in Europe over the past six weeks has shown a significant drop in activity, a local expert said on Sunday. "What I can confirm is that the activity of the crater has stopped. No magma is coming up" Magnus Gudmundsson of Iceland University said.
Issued on:
"The eruption, at least for the time being, has stopped. Now there is only steam coming out of the crater," he told press agency AFP.
However, Gudmundsson said it was “too early to tell” if it was the end of the eruption or just a temporary halt in its activity.
Huge ash clouds from the Eyjafjoell volcano grounded thousands of flights across Europe shortly after its eruption on 14 April.
