French Health Minister Marisol Touraine has asked for an inquiry into the safety of electronic cigarettes - mechanical devices that some smokers say helps them quit. French health authorities in 2011 warned people against using e-cigarettes but a recent surge in sales has led the government to consider regulating the market.
