UN calls for a resolution on cyber surveillance

Issued on:

A UN resolution calling for the protection of the privacy of citizens worldwide is going ahead this week. The US, Britain and Australia demanded some changes weakening its language but now support the final draft. The UN General Assembly's Third Committee, which deals with human rights issues, is expected to take up the draft on Wednesday. It could be put to a vote by the General Assembly next month. Greg Austin, a cybersecurity expert from Est-West Inst comments about the measure, which is unprecedented in International Relations.
