Roadside bomb kills 20 in Nimroz province

A roadside bomb killed 20 people on a bus in Afghanistan on Wednesday morning, according to provincial governor Ghulam Dastgir. The crowded vehicle was travelling on a road through Nimroz province, in the south-west of the country near the Iranian border.

The attack was apparently intended to strike a Nato convoy. Twenty-seven people were injured. The governor blamed the Taliban, although there was no immediate claim of responsibility.

β€œThe roadside bomb struck a civilian bus this morning,” Azad told the AFP news agency. β€œThe bomb had been planted by enemies because this morning a coalition convoy was supposed to cross the area.”

The bus was travelling from Delaram district, about 700 kilometres from Kabul, when the bomb exploded.
