Hyper Ivanovic has humour, Safarova is fawned on on day 10 of Roland Garros

On day 10 of the French Open French techy stuff goes international, Ivanovic hasn't calmed down, falling hoardings stop play, Safarova has a fan in the press corps and modest Stan Wawrinka is not sure he's the man.

They’re spreading the message far and wide

For the past few years, the French Tennis Federation has had a lark called Roland Garros in the City. Essentially this entails a giant screen so people can watch the matches as well as interactive things like a tennis court to practice your game. Three years ago the concept was taken to Beijing. And it’s been a success. This year Rio has been added and more specifically Copacabana has been selected for the venture. Impressed punters can also purchase knick-knacks daubed with the Roland Garros logo.

Ana Ivanovic has a sense of humour

The Serbian 27-year-old won the title in 2008 when she was – to say the least – prone to being hyper. After reaching the semi-final for the first time since she won the title, she was asked what had changed about her. “I think for a starter I'm talking more slowly,” she replied. “Am I? No? Ah, damn.”

Security? What security?

Back on day one Roger Federer was indignant over security arrangements after a fan evaded security and tried to take a selfie with him. Tournament director Gilbert Ysern apologised for the lapse and admitted it was embarrassing. He said there would be more alertness from the security guards. During the quarter-final match between the French 14th seed Jo-Wilifried Tsonga and the Japanese fifth seed Kei Nishikori a metal hoarding fell down from the scoreboard and injured three people. Play was suspended for more than half an hour while the repair teams went up and fixed the equipment. Oh dear! That’s going to be a tough one to explain.

It’s day 10 … and the stress is getting to everyone

There was a question from one of the journalists to Lucie Safarova after her match against Garbine Muguruza. “Usually when it’s this windy, the quality of play is not high. But you and Garbine in the first set were just amazing. Did you manage to take it in, like during the first set and after you won the tiebreak and realise just how good of an example of women's tennis you guys were giving?" There are another five days to go.

Joining the top brass is a hard task

Stan Wawrinka won the Australian Open a couple of years ago, beating Rafael Nadal in the final after knocking off Novak Djokovic in the semis. It was a big breakthrough for the Swiss who has lived in the shadow of his illustrious compatriot Roger Federer.
Federer, Djokovic, Nadal and Andy Murray are known as "the Big Four", presumably because there are four of them. However these elite beings of the tour all agree that Stan is a man among them. But Stan is not so sure.

“Now, maybe for the past two years I'm closer to them because sometimes I can defeat them on the big tournaments and I win some tournaments, as well,” he said. “But they have been doing this for 10 years. That's reality. Look at their results and the thing that's changed is the last two years. Now, sometimes Nadal loses during the round of 16 or Roger in quarter-finals or semis. Before they were always in the semis or playing finals but look at their results. They are so good. Look at their careers. They are totally different from mine.” Very true. But there might be a change coming.
