The victory of the 2023 Ligue 1 champions against the 2023 Coupe de France winners provided Luis Enrique with his first piece of silverware since taking over from Christophe Galtier last July as PSG head coach.

Kang-in Lee opened the scoring at the Parc des Princes with festive ease after three minutes. Vitinha lofted a ball to the right of the Toulouse penalty area for Ousmane Dembélé who fired it across first time for Lee to slot past the Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaume Restes.

After that it was one-way traffic. Toulouse – who thrashed Nantes to win the Coupe de France – could barely escape from their half and when they did manage a foray into opposition terrain, it was a hit in hope rather than purpose as Vincent Sierro's lob plopped harmlessly to the right of Gigi Donnarumma's right hand post.

PSG hogged possession but failed to extend their lead. And Toulouse gradually began to show belief that a battle could still be joined.

Fight

After 37 minutes, the proof. Thijs Dallinga's snapshot brought Donnarumma into action. The Italy international got down swiftly to his left to push the drive onto his post.

As half-time approached, Kylian Mbappé effectively settled the outcome when he rounded off a swirling PSG move that had started just to the right of their own penalty area.

The strike allowed the 25-year-old to surpass Edinson Cavani to become the most prolific marksman for PSG at the Parc des Princes with 111 goals.

Toulouse's four substitutes tried to up the tempo and force a change of fortune but the PSG rearguard held firm courtesy of some Donnarumma heroics in stoppage time.
