Chanel launched her iconic N°5 perfume at her rue Cambon boutique in Paris on the 5 May 1921. Promoted by celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Catherine Deneuve and Nicole Kidman, the appeal of the fragrance remains, a century on. RFI met with Paris tour guide Edith de Belleville at the ‘Gabrielle Chanel: Fashion Manifesto’ retrospective exhibition at the Musée de Mode Galliera, in Paris (1 Oct – 14 March 2020) to find out what makes it a hit.
