This year France is marking two war anniversaries: the centenary of the start of the First World War in 1914, and the 70th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy, in the Second Word War. These events will be marked by official ceremonies, but they have also piqued the interest of visitors, interested in seeing battle sites, memorials and military cemeteries. And the French government has been crafting the concept of 'memory tourism', which it presented at a recent tourism expo in Paris.
