Russia's gas export monopoly Gazprom has denied cutting supplies to Europe, as it deals with unexpected harsh winter temperatures. An expert in the gas industry comments.

RWE Transgas in the Czech Republic and Italy's Snam Rete Gas have reported receiving slightly lower volumes of natural gas from Russia.

Gazprom's deputy chief executive officer said he was surprised by reports that exports had fallen and said Russia had actually been increasing gas supplies to Europe.

He also said Ukraine, which transports most of Gazprom's gas to Europe, was exporting Russian gas at a pace that was above normal levels.

Russia is the world's largest gas producer.
