TechnoratiFormer French PM Fillon to leave Rome clinic on Wednesday
On Wednesday, France's former prime minister, Francois Fillon, should be discharged from the clinic in Rome where he is being treated after he broke his ankle in a scooter accident while on holiday.
"Following an operation like this, there are routine checks. Tomorrow we will have the last checks," Paolo Brandimarte, a spokesman for Villa Stuart clinic, said after earlier saying Fillon would be discharged on Tuesday.
Fillon, a car racing buff, was holidaying with his family on the island of Capri near Naples as a guest of the head of luxury carmaker Ferrari.
His scooter hit the pavement, he fell off and the scooter then fell on his foot while he was touring the island.
He was rescued by some motorists and received emergency assistance in a hospital in Capri.
He was then taken by helicopter to the prestigious Villa Stuart clinic, where Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo visited him on Monday.
The 58-year-old former prime minister served under former president NicolasSarkozy before the election of Francois Hollande and is a favourite to take over the leadership of the main centre-right UMP party.
