Portuguese businessman becomes Corsica's 18th murder victim this year
A Portuguese businessman has been shot and killed in Corsica bringing the total number of murders on the French Mediterranean island to 18 this year.

Building contractor Victor Ribeiro, 45, was gunned down at a petrol station in the holiday spot of Prunete-Cervione on the island’s east on Tuesday.
Security has been upped in Corsica in recent months amid an increase in violent attacks.
The French government has promised more resources for police to crack down
on money-laundering and racketeering as violence increases among criminal gangs, some of them linked to former members of armed nationalist groups.
The island with a population of just 310,000 has Europe’s highest murder rate per head.
