Greeks enjoy free concerts by unemployed Hellenic Radio Television musicians

Issued on:

The occupation of the Greek radio and television headquarters near Athens by its employees, is now in its third week. The 2,600 staffers of the state-run Hellenic Radio Television, called ERT, were abruptly laid off and their signal cut off on 11 June. Under pressure in the midst of an economic crisis, the government ordered the closure because ERT was allegedly a "haven of waste", a move that led to an international outcry. But Athenians can still hear concerts at the HQ every night performed by an orchestra of now unemployed musicians.
