Hollande confirms French weapons were sent to Syrian rebels
French president Francois Hollande confirmed on Thursday that France has sent weapons to the rebels fighting the regime of President Bashar al-Assad in Syria.

Hollande made this statement during his visit to the island of Reunion on Thursday.
Hollande also said that the French weapons were sent “a few months ago”, when the Syrian rebels faced both the armies of al-Assad and the Islamic State militants.
He added that the Syrian rebels are the only ones fighting for democracy and that they need weapons to do so.
Hollande said that the support of other nations was important and that France could not be the only country helping them. He added that France had a good understanding with Europe and the Americans on this matter.
