EasyJet to cancel about 40 flights a day after Christmas due to strike in France
The low-cost British airline company EasyJet announced that about 40 flights would be cancelled the day after Christmas due to a strike by its flight attendants in France over scheduling and pay.
Issued on:
The strike was planned for the 25 and 26 December but no flights had been scheduled on Christmas day.
EasyJet said however that 1,200 flights were scheduled in total on Friday and that the strike would “mainly affect French domestic flights”.
The company also indicated that 38 flights would be cancelled, mainly serving domestic routes but also those to Milan and Barcelona.
The unions representing the workers are asking for a better management of the employees' schedules and for a larger share of the company’s profits.
EasyJet’s boss in France François Bacchetta had said he understood the cabin staff’s “frustration” and had added that the company was working on this “very complex” issue.
The airline company employs some 600 flight attendants among its roughly 1,000 workers in France.
