Despite government's stance, many Turks recognise Armenian genocide

As Armenians around the world commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide on 24 April, much focus is on Turkey, the successor state of the Ottoman Empire whose rulers ordered the deportation and extermination of the bulk of its ethnic Armenian citizens. But Armenians living in Turkey today – as well as Turkish civil society activists – say it’s time for their government to come to terms with the past for the sake of present and future generations. Jacob Resneck reports from Istanbul.
