Racism in France on the rise, says UN

Racism in France is undergoing a "significant resurgence" and the authorities lack the political will to deal with the problem, according to a report by UN experts. The findings are part of a 90-page report on racism in France by 18 international experts.
The group of experts, named by the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination, looked into how traveller communities are treated, including the Roma.
Last month, French President Nicolas Sarkozy ordered the evacuation of Roma communities in France following instances of urban violence. Critics called this move an official way to stigmatise the Roma community.
One of the UN committee members said that the attitudes and practices of the current French government is reminiscent of France's Vichy government, which collaborated with the Nazi German occupying forces during World War II.
Queries were also made into the French debate on national identity. "I don't know what a 'French person of foreign origin is'," said Gun Kut, a Turkish inspector. "I ask if this is compatible with the constitution."
Sarkozy had also threatened to strip naturalised citizens of their nationality if they commit certain crimes.
The panel will receive the French response today before making a list of recommendations for the French state.
"France has been taken to task," said Malik Salemkour, of the League of Human Rights, who called this review "unprecedented".

multiculture
It is obvious that Sarkozy s policies are similar to the Vichy s collaborators and he seems to forget that millions of French people are moslems and once the younger new generation gets radicalized it will be very bloody .
We all need our identity
Too much was given away in the past decades and the Europeans feel disenfranchised. I don't think that this is hard to grasp. What on Earth is so difficult? If you wish to live in our midst, adapt to OUR culture. If that seems unacceptable, feel free to go. I wouldn't dream of going to somebody else's country and expect the indigenous population to give up their identity. We are the West, we are Judeo-Christian based, let's leave it that way. Guests are welcome, provided they behave like polite guests and not like occupants.
maybe Europeans need to lighten up
The problem is that, when Europeans say immigrants should adapt to their cultures, that means 100%, presto, chango, no concessions from the host country whatsoever. I believe it's a two-way streak. Also, integration takes time, and the subsequent generations find it easier. And, it's not as if integration has been a complete failure. There are many immigrants who run successful businesses.
I've lived in Europe for the past few years, not as an immigrant and not as a European but rather as an independent observer. I just don't think Europeans are very receptive to other cultures than their own. They should lighten up.
Racism in France of the rise
Is it a case that Racism is on the rise, or is it that the citizens of France have had enough of the cow-towing down to immigrant groups who access the country univited, and then dictate what they think they ought to be entitled to, without payment of contribution.
I personally think the latter. People to work to the common good of France and contribute by way of taxes and support for their elected government, are not being treated with the respect that they are due to them. Time and again they see others being given benefits, handouts and every other forms of consideration just because they think they're entitled. Make things fairer for the hard working supporters, listen to their fears of how their own personal rights and considerations are steadily being eroded by touchy feely politicians and immigrant pressure groups - perhaps then you may understand why there is, as you call it racism.
WHAT IS FRANCE AIMING FOR? A
WHAT IS FRANCE AIMING FOR? A COUNTRY WITH JUST PURE FRENCH...I GUESS THAT IS VERY MUCH OBSELETE TODAY...WITH TONNES OF MIX MARRIAGES...WE HAVE NEW CLANS, AND NEW RACES! WHERE IS THE GOVERMENT GOING TO THROW THEM? PEOPLE STARTING TO SEE EVERY HUMAN AS HUMAN BUT GOVERMENT IS CHANGING THEIR VIEW.
Follow the leader
With a thug for President, France will be transformed in a very, very ugly country for any foreign visitor.
Our President does his best
Our President does his best to keep the country safe and it's not so easy. When you have some people who are able to attack a village with ax, I think you have a problem. Today, unfortunately, the tolerance is a kind of submission for the social peace, it musn't goes on ad vitam aeternam.
