France expels Roma families amid global outcry

About 80 Roma were sent to French airports for expulsion.

The French government has followed through with a threat to expel all foreign Roma people – commonly known as Gypsies – and tear down illegal makeshift camps in France. On Thursday, close to 80 Roma people embarked on plane from Lyon to Bucharest. The UN panel on racism, the Romanian government, and human rights groups have slammed France’s policy towards Roma people.
