Ghesquière and Taponier, as well as three Afghan colleagues – Mohammed Reza, Ghulam and Satar – were taken hostage whilst travelling in Afghanistan’s Kapisa province, north east of Kabul. The reporter and cameraman were working for France 3 television

In September an advisor to French President Nicolas Sarkozy said that they had received confirmation that Ghesquière and Taponier were alive and well.

They had appeared in a video in April reading a statement asking the French government to comply with the kidnappers’ demands.

Tonight’s free concert at the Zenith in Paris is supported by France Télévisions, RFI and TV5Monde. It will be broadcast from 20.35 (Paris time) on RFI across Kabul.
