Facebook has more than 500 million users in the world. According to statistics provided by the site, 91 per cent of French people aged 13- to 24-years-old have a Facebook page.

Even the French president has one, which was recently hacked.

With so many users, France represents an opportunity for the site, which is trying ways to mix commerce with social networking.

On Monday the site introduced Bon Plans, an adaptation of the Deals service that has been offered for users in the US since November.

The service, which was launched throughout Europe, offers deals or rebates for users who indicate where they are, using the site’s geolocalisation application, available through a mobile device.

The first partners include the BNP Paribas bank, the mobile operator SFR, McDonalds, Disneyland, the clothing companies Benetton and Bonobo, the Olympique de Marseille football club and the French football federation.
