French magistrates strike following Sarkozy's Laetitia comments

Issued on:

After the railroad workers, the railroad passenger, the teachers, the journalists, workers for the postal service and hospital employees, it is now the turn for the Magistrates to strike. For one week already, French magistrates in several large cities all over France have slowed down, or stopped completely their work. It all started with what is called the Laetitia-case, the case of a girl of 18 who was abducted near her home town of Nantes, and then butchered by a serial offender who had been released from prison after an 11 year sentence. The French president, Nicolas Sarkozy, said it was the mistake of the judicial system. But it were those remarks which triggered angry actions by France's judiciary
