One man seriously injured in accident at Disneyland Paris

Five people were hurt, one seriously, when a piece of scenary fell onto passengers on a roller coaster ride at the top European tourist attraction Disneyland Paris on Sunday.The injured were on the Big Thunder Mountain ride when a fibreglass and wood section of the structure inside one of the tunnels fell onto one of the carriages carrying 25 people.

A 38-year-old man received serious head injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital. Four other people were slightly injured.

Following the accident, the ride was closed, but the rest of the park remained open to visitors.

The last major incident at Disneyland Paris was in October 2010 when a 53-year-old cleaner died after being trapped underneath a boat on the It's A Small World ride. The ride had been switched on while being cleaned.

Disneyland Paris was visited by 15 million tourists last year and has seen 215 million visits since it opened in 1992.
