The newspaper, which has been jointly bought by press group, France Economie Régions, FER, and Hi-Media, will be reduced to a weekly format published alongside the website, www.latribune.fr.

The new owners will keep 50 of the paper’s 165 employees including 31 journalists and will invest around seven million euros into the business which they bought for 150,000 euros.

“The hardest work is now ahead of us,” said Jean-Christophe Tortora, head of FER and president of Groupe La Tribune. “It is a new beginning. LaTribune,fr has two million regular visitors. We want to increase this to three million by 2013.”

He added that alongside coverage of major international and financial topics, the paper would also concentrate on domestic, economic issues effecting France’s smaller regions and cities.

La Tribune will become a daily reference point for all those who want to know more about what is happening in the real economy,” he said.

The paper’s last edition published a special section in which journalist re-lived some of La Tribune’s greatest moments and most memorable front pages.

The paper has changed hand six times over the years. New owners included the luxury goods group, LVMH and media mogul Alain Weill.
