US director Wes Anderson film to open Cannes festival
A US directed film will open the 65th Cannes Film Festival on 16 May for the second year running. Wes Anderson's new film Moonrise Kingdom follows in the footsteps of Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris which was the opening film in 2011.

Anderson, who co-wrote the screenplay with Roman Coppola, also directed movies including The Royal Tenenbaums (2001), The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004) and Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009).
"Kingdom, which stars Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton, was filmed on an island in New England and is described as a "tormenting and surprising story of children and adults during the stormy days of the summer of 1965."
“Wes Anderson is one of the rising powers of American cinema, to which he brings a highly personal touch, particularly in Moonrise Kingdom, which once again is a testimony to the creative freedom in which he continues to evolve,” said the festival’s artistic director Thierry Fremaux. “Sensitive and independent, this admirer of Fellini and Renoir is also in his own right a brilliant and inventive filmmaker.
The jury of the 65th festival will be presided over by Italian filmmaker Nanni Moretti.
The official selection for the festival, running from May 16 to 27, will be announced on 19 April.
