The first Miss Black France competition was held this weekend in Paris. 17 young women aged 17 to 29, the majority not professional models, were chosen from 1,000 applicants. The pageant got the backing of the French representative council of black associations,CRAN. However, it also came in for criticism that the racial angle was not in keeping with the values of French society.
