Demonstration in Paris after Tunisian refugees drown in Mediterranean
Tunisian migrants rescued from their sunk boat arrive in a coast guard vessel at Lampedusa harbour in Sicily 7 September, 2012
Reuters/Coast guard Press Office/HandoutTens of thousands of refugees arrived on the Italian island of Lampedusa last year, following the Arab Spring in North Africa. Even though flows of migrants have tapered off recently, people continue to attempt the risky voyage across the Mediterranean. On 6 September, a boat carrying more than a hundred Tunisians sank off the coast of Lampedusa, killing an estimated 80 people. In Paris last week, a protest was held by local organisations and Tunisians living in France.
