US President Barack Obama is being advised by a French economist. He recently appointed Esther Duflo to the Global Development Council, which advises the president on development policy. Duflo has won recognition for her work on alleviating poverty and joins a handful of prominent French economists, like Thomas Piketty, who have made a name for themselves in the US.
