RFI's David Thomson, a specialist on jihad, has confirmed reports from the Islamic State group that al-Faransi died two months ago, defending a frontier post against the Syrian Army in the region of Homs.

Two of his brothers, one of whom recently appeared in an IS propaganda video, are also reported to have been killed.

The IS source that reported the boy’s death welcomed his “martyrdom”.

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said on Sunday that 90 French people have died in Syria and Iraq, fighting against France and its values.
