At least nine people have been killed by Syrian security forces during Friday protests, according to exiled rights groups. Many others are reported wounded.

The violence is reported to have taken place in Damascus, Kiswah and Homs.

Thousands took to the streets in other cities and towns after weekly Muslim prayers following a call to stage more rallies by Facebook group Syrian Revolution 2011,

The European Union also stepped up pressure on President Basar al-Assad's regime on Friday by imposing sanctions on three of its alleged Iranian military allies.

The three members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, along with four Syrians and four businesses, were added to a list of people already hit by an assets freeze and EU travel ban.

Meanwhile, EU leaders holding a summit in Brussels are set to adopt a declaration condemning the “unacceptable and shocking violence the Syrian regime continues to apply to its own citizens”.

On Thursday troops backed by tanks entered the border village of Khirbet al-Joz sending hundreds of people fleeing into Turkey.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called the move a “very worrisome development".

“Unless the Syrian forces immediately end their attacks and provocations… we’re going to see an escalation of conflict in the area,” she told reporters in Washington.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Friday he is in continuing contact with Syria in an attempt to launch reforms and end the violence which has forced nearly 12,000 people to flee into Turkey.

Davutoglu said he spoke to his Syrian counterpart Walid Muallem on Thursday to convey Turkey's "concerns and thoughts" about the situation on the border, according to the Anatolia news agency.

syrian crisis

It seems the western powers have their way in the modern world. They find excuses, manipulate uprisings in a country when they want to topple the government there. The idea of sovereignty of nations is a casualty. Of course ideas such as soverignty, freedom etc are much publicised when and where it serves their purpose. Concepts are concepts to discuss and argue but in practical life no nation takes such things seriously. They cater to their own national interest. Thus the more powerful have their way. Union is strength. Nations are self centred and they do not unite. In course of time they might find themselves in a tight spot for this cant care less attittude.

Wake up

Having travelled to Syria in July and since kept in daily contact with relatives in the troubled city of Homs, I can tell you that some of the "peaceful demonstrators" the Syrian government is fighting against at the moment in Homs are actually armed militants & criminal gangs funded by countries such as Qatar & KSA under the direction of the US. Many of these armed militants have links to religious extremism, so it’s a reckless, negligent and short-sighted approach that some Arab countries and the West are taking. Don't create another Al Qaida safe haven.

Syria, UNSC, ICC and Intervention

If you would like to inform yourself on the Syrian situation have a look at this article:

http://cdnews1.wordpress.com/2011/10/17/syrian-intervention-and-the-un-security-council/

There are many questions to be raised about the reactions of the international community. Clearly intervention must occur in some significant form as soon as possible... before too many lives are neglected. Assad has had enough time, and the Arab League must decide on how to intervene. The middle east risks conflict from the topple of Assad only if it is dealt with the wrong way.

Bashar Al Assad

Time has come for Bashar to leave syria,if Bashar is smart first save his family second Bashar save himself by leaving Syria Bashar will never win,as the old Syrian saying IF THE PEOPLE WANTS

Syria's government is trying

Syria's government is trying to reform Syria but those armed forces are continuing their efforts in terrorizing the nation in the name of freedom. I still don't know what they want. They like to spread chaos rather than use dialogue. The international community should support Syria and create some dialogue between the opposition and the government of Syria to implement reform and end all this.

This report is indeed a page

This report is indeed a page out of Bible prophecy, the prophecy of Daniel who foretold in Daniel 11:40-42 that Syria, in the passage referred to as the King of the North, will attack Israel. In fact, the Syrian attack on Israel will be the first move by an alignment of nations who will follow Syria in an attack on the Jewish state (Daniel 11:43-44, Ezekiel 38).
