A new president for Yemen?

Issued on:

A wave of bloodletting in Yemen on Sunday and Monday coincided with the arrival in the capital, Sanaa, of UN envoy to Yemen, Jamal Benomar, and Gulf Cooperation Council chief Abdullatif al-Zayani. Observers see their visits as an attempt to design a UN roadmap for the transfer of power from embattled President Ali Abdullah Saleh to his deputy. A former diplomat who lived and worked extensively in Yemen and surrounding countries analyses the situation.
