The United States, Britain and Canada have imposed new sanctions on Iran. Both Tehran and its ally Russia have denounced the move as futile and illegal. The new measures target Iran's financial, petrochemical and energy sectors. However, both Russia and China have blocked any possibility of US-led moves against Iran reaching the UN Security Council.
