The UN-Arab League special envoy to Syria, Kofi Annan, resigned yesterday complaining of a lack of support for his peace plan. Violence in the country is escalating - with rebel forces now using heavy weapons such as tanks - while the Syrian Army jets are strafing parts of Aleppo, the country's second city. RFI spoke to a Middle East expert about the deepening crisis.
