Palestinian Authority to submit new UN bid

Issued on:

The Palestinian Authority is again planning to submit a bid to become an observer member of the United Nations. However, the US and Israel are opposing the move. US President Barack Obama told Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in a telephone conversation on Sunday that his administration opposes the UN initiative. Israeli officials have threatened punitive measures if it goes ahead. But not everyone in Israel is against the bid. RFI talked to Galia Golan, a political scientist who thinks Palestinian membership of the United Nations will bring peace to Israel.
