Violence has surged in Egypt's Sinai peninsula since the toppling of former president Mohamed Morsi last Wednesday. Militants yesterday blew up a pipeline transporting gas to Jordan. Islamists reportedly launched gun attacks against security forces throughout the region, which borders Israel, killing several Egyptian soldiers.
