French football coach to appear before parliament

French football coach Raymond Domenech and former French Football Federation head Jean-Pierre Escalettes have been called to appear before parliament to explain their team's woeful World Cup performance. They are to address a hearing of the National Assembly's Cultural Affairs commission on Wednesday.
France has reacted to the team's early elimination from the tournament with a mix of anger and humilation.
The team was ousted after two defeats, one draw, a players' strike and internal squabbles, for which both Domenech and Escalettes have been highly criticised.
Members of President Nicolas Sarkozy's governing UMP party are pressing for a commission of inquiry, while the president himself has said that those responsible should be held accountable.
FIFA president Sepp Blatter warned the French government not to meddle in football affairs, which he said where the domain of the football federation.
"We don't want political interference," Blatter said in Johannesburg. "In the FIFA statutes, no political interference can be tolerated.
French Sports Minister Roselyne Bachelot, who traveled to South Africa with the team, will also address deputies on Tuesday.
