There was plenty of drama in Miami as the defending champion survived a scare from the Ukrainian challenger Alexandr Dolgopolov.

The Serbian performed a great escape act to win the match in three sets after being a set down and a break down in the second set.

Djokovic eventually prevailed with 6-7, 7-5, 6-0.

In the quarter-final he will now clash with sixth seed David Ferrer, who defeated Frenchman Gilles Simon 7-6 (7/5), 6-0.

Britain's Andy Murray added another feather to his cap as he registered his 500th career victory with a three-sets win over South Africa's Kevin Anderson.

Murray is the first British man to reach this milestone.

The third-seeded Scotsman won his match 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Murray will face Austrian Dominic Thiem, who defeated Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 7-6 (7/5), 4-6, 7-5.

Murray is the first British man, the ninth active player and the 46th man in the post-1968 Open Era to achieve the 500-win mark.

It was a disappointing day for the French players as injury-hit Gael Monfils withdrew from his match against Tomas Berdych.

Japan's fourth seed Kei Nishikori beat Belgian David Goffin 6-1, 6-2. Nishikori is now set to move to a career-best fourth in the world, sending Rafael Nadal to fifth.
