City dominated the game right from the start as West Ham United players struggled to find rhythm.

An own goal by James Collins and one by Sergio Aguero helped City collect three points, putting them in fourth place in the League standings.

Both the first-half goals were a result of quick bursts by the duo of Jesus Navas and Sergio Aguero, who has now become the leading goal scorer and the first player to score 20 goals this season.

While the first goal came to fruition because of an error by Collins, who in his attempt to clear a Navas cross put the ball in his own net, the second was a result of a brilliant counter-attack marshalled by Aguero and Jesus Navas.

The second half was marred by a face injury to City’s David Silva who had to be carried off on a stretcher. The Spanish international was elbowed in the face by West Ham’s Cheikhou Kouyate, who escaped with just a yellow card for the foul.

Despite the win, the Manchester based club is 12 points behind leaders Chelsea which established a sizeable lead over their championship rivals cushion after beating Manchester United 1-0 on Saturday.

Belgium international Eden Hazard scored the only goal of the match at Stamford Bridge.

The win has now put the London club firmly in the saddle to win their first Premier League title since 2010.

Chelsea will become champions if they win their next two matches, against Arsenal and Leicester.
