West Bromwich Albion shock champions Chelsea 3-0

Chelsea may have been crowned the English Premier League champions but that didn’t seem to have made any impression on the 13th placed West Bromwich Albion, who beat the London giants 3-0 in their Premier League encounter last night.

West Brom took the lead in the ninth minute as Saido Berahino scored from the edge of the box with a perfect kick.

Besides the scoreline, the other highlight of the match was the dismissal of Cesc Fabregas who could now miss the first two games of next season if he is handed a three-game suspension.

West Brom doubled their lead in the 47th minute, as John Terry brought down Berahino in the box.

Berahino scored his second goal of the night with a low hard shot past Chelsea goalkeeper Thibault Courtois.

West Brom completed the formalities as Chris Brunt scored the third goal for the hosts.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho wasn’t happy about Fabregas’ sent off.

He felt that a more experienced referee than Mike Jones would have resolved the situation with a mere lecture and not a red card.

Meanwhile, Arsenal could seal their spot in next year’s Champions League if they win against Sunderland on Wednesday. A win would guarantee the north Londoners a top three finish in the League standings.

While Arsenal are looking to play in Europe’s top league, it’s a battle of survival for Sunderland, who are placed just three points above third-from-bottom Hull.

Sunderland need one more point out of their remaining two matches to be certain of avoiding relegation. A defeat on Wednesday however would still leave them vulnerable because of their inferior goal difference to the Hull.

Sunderland have been in decent form of late, collecting 11 points from the last seven games under the new manager Dick Avocaat.
