Laurent Blanc sets out PSG's trophy priorities

Paris Saint-Germain manager Laurent Blanc on Wednesday laid out the club's main ambitions as his players prepared to defend their football League Cup crown in the last 16 against Saint Etienne.

Blanc said winning the Ligue 1 title for the fourth consecutive year and ultimate glory in the Uefa Champions League were at the top of the list.

Retaining the League Cup and the French Cup would depend on the availability of star players, said the 50-year-old.

Though his side are 17 points clear in Ligue 1, Blanc hit out at the fixture list.

"There are a lot of games to play and with the two cup competitions, it almost becomes unplayable," he commented.

"People say PSG has got a big and talented squad - and that's true - and if I have all my players available, then, yes, we can play all the games in the championship, the two cups and the Uefa Champions League. But things happen. The more games you play, the more likely you are to pick up injuries and suspensions."

Last season, PSG won an unprecedented treble of French Cup, League Cup and Ligue 1. They were knocked out in the last eight of the Champions League by Barcelona who went on to win the title at the expense of Juventus.

On Monday PSG drew Chelsea in the last 16. Last season at the same stage of the competition they beat the Londoners on away goals. A year before in the quarter-finals, Chelsea edged past the French outfit also on the away goals rule.

This term PSG will go into the clash as favourites.

Chelsea are languishing near the Premier League's relegation zone and the position of manager Jose Mourinho is in doubt after nine defeats in 16 games.

It's a stark contrast with PSG's domestic form. In France they are unbeaten, having won 15 and drawn three of their 18 matches.
