The much anticipated encounter between the second and third placed sides was marked by superb individual efforts by Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey and Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

The match started with the home side probing Arsenal’s defence in the first 30 minutes. However, it was Arsenal which took the lead in the 39th minute after Ramsey flicked a pass from Hector Bellerin inside the box with his right heel to the top left corner of the goalpost. The goal spurred the visitors on as they dominated the remaining six minutes of the first half.

Arsenal looked to be in control of the match before Francos Coeqluin was sent off in the 54th minute for getting a second yellow card of the match.

Coeqluin’s departure had an instant impact on the game as Spurs dominated the 10-man Arsenal side. Just five minutes after Coeqluin’s foul, the home side levelled after Toby Alderweireld struck the ball to the bottom right corner with a close range left foot shot.

Spurs took the lead just two minutes later after Kane produced a magical goal. Cutting in on the right, the 23-year-old striker beat the diving Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina with a stunning long range strike. There was a sense of déjà vu for Arsenal as they had lost 2-1 to Swansea City after squandering a 1-0 lead last week on Wednesday.

However, Alexis Sanchez ensured his team didn’t go pointless as he scored Arsenal’s second goal in the 75th minute with a right footed strike which goalkeeper Hugo Lloris failed to save.

The goal denied Tottenham a win and a chance to go level on points with leaders Leicester City who now lead Spurs by two points with a game in hand. Arsenal are in third place on 52 points.
