Wojciech Janowski, Pastor's son-in-law and Poland's honorary consul in Monaco, confessed to his involvement  in the killing of Pastor while in detention in France this week, a Marseille prosecutor told the AFP news agency.

Janowski, 64,  was arrested along with 22 other people last Monday.

Hélène Pastor's eldest daughter, Sylvia Pastor, was also detained but released on Thursday without charge.

Police investigating Pastor's shooting last month in the southern Frnch city of Nice discovered "suspicious" financial transactions on bank accounts belonging to her son-in-law, prosecutor Brice Robin said on Tuesday.

Robin said that two suspects are alleged to have been hired to kill Pastor.

Pastor, who belongs to one of Monaco's richest families, died following the 6 May shooting outside a hospital in Nice.

Her driver was also shot and killed.

Pastor was a billionaire having inherited a real estate and construction business but the total amount of her fortune is one of Monaco's best-kept secrets.
