The drones, whose number remains unknown, have been spotted near the US embassy at

the Place de la Concorde, at the Eiffel Tower and Invalides along the river Seine and at two road entrances to Paris.

Such flights over the capital are forbidden and magistrates ordered an inquiry to be opened on Tuesday following Monday night's flights over the same sites.

A little over a month ago a drone flight was reported over the Elysée presidential palace.

About 20 drone flights were observed over nuclear power stations in October but noone has claimed responsibility and those responsible have not been identified.

The flights come as Paris is still on terror alert after January's Charlie Hebdo attacks.
