Police in Nigeria shot dead one protester and injured more than twenty on Monday 9 December, during the first day of a nationwide strike against the removal of a fuel subsidy. Shops and businesses across Nigeria were shut in protest against the removal of the subsidy, which has caused the price of fuel to double.
