Civilians killed by suicide attack in Kunduz

At least 28 people were killed and 32 others wounded Monday by a suicide attacker who blew himself in front of an administration building in northern Kunduz province. All of the victims were civilians, according to the interior ministry.

The attack targeted a line of people queued up in front of an administrative office in Imam Sahib district to receive identity cards and other paperwork.

Interior ministry spokesman Zemerai Bashary called the attack "a disaster".

Officials fear the death toll will rise, as the wounded are in critical condition.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

The north of Afghanistan has seen less violence from the Taliban than elsewhere, though the rebellion has fanned across the country in recent months.

On Saturday, several Taliban suicide bombers hit a bank in Jalalabad, in eastern Afghanistan, killing 38 people and wounding more than 70 others.

Meanwhile, Afghan officials on Monday accused Nato forces of killing a family of six in an air strike overnight.

A misdirected missile hit their mud-built home in Nangarhar province, which borders Pakistan in the east.

On Sunday, President Hamid Karzai said 50 innocent people had died in aerial attacks nearby.
