Another jewellery theft in the French Riviera
After two jewellery heists on the French Riviera this week, another theft has been reported at a luxury hotel east of Nice.
Issued on:
Management at the Hotel de Saint Jean Cap Ferrat said thieves broke into the safes of three rooms on Friday night, stealing jewellery and other valuables worth around 40,000 euros.
Police blocked roads on the Cap Ferrat peninsula but the thief or thieves escaped.
Officers stressed that thefts such as this one are common at French Mediterranean resorts during summer holidays.
The theft comes after a record 103 million euro theft from a diamond exhibition at the Carlton Hotel at Cannes last Sunday.
Then on Wednesday, two men armed with a grenade and a gun burst into a Cannes boutique and stole 1.5 million euros’ worth of luxury watches.
Cannes was also hit by a wave of jewellery robberies during this year’s film festival in May.
