The airplane, a Cessna six-seater, failed to take off properly, crashing into a field at the end of the runway at the Lyon-Bron airport and bursting into flames.

Sixteen fire engines and 44 firefighters were dispatched to battle the blaze but they failed to save any of those on board.

Three charred bodies were found inside the wreck, while a fourth passenger, who had been ejected from the plane, was found later.
